About Time Too

frosty-blog-lmrtDo you ever wake up feeling irritable and grumpy for no apparent reason? I’m sure you do, everyone must do at some point. Well at some point last week I seem to have woken up in such a state and it hasn’t waned at all. This is not normally like me. Yes, I can be grumpy about lots of things but I’m usually a cheery chap who only really gets grumpy when there’s something to be grumpy about – although, knowing my brain that could be anything!

Suffice to say, I’m in a bit of an uncharacteristic mood so have been avoiding social interaction for the most part so I don’t go off on a rant about something. This did give me the chance, however, to think more about my novel and to get out and take some photos for Compose, Expose, Upload, which I have been meaning to do for some time.

The novel is coming on well (in my head at least) and I’m trying to sort out plot points, different perspectives and background information in my head currently – although I should probably write it down! In fact, I think I might do that today. Good plan. About time too! I may post up a couple of sections from the novel at some point, but bear in mind they’re first drafts which are very rough…thoughts on this? Should I keep it to myself?

Going back to the photos I took…they’ve been posted up on Compose, Expose, Upload (<- click that link to see them) and my Flickr if you’d like to have a look. I do like this time of year but for photography it’s more a love/hate relationship. I love it because it can produce some lovely frosty and misty shots which just look gorgeous. Also, the sun tends to be low in the sky so you end up with lovely long shadows. On the other hand, the weather is usually less than ideal and often makes everything look incredibly dull. This is fine if you’re taking more ‘moody’ shots but otherwise it makes them look a tad flat and boring.

On the subject of photos, I’m really looking forward to receiving my Moo Mini Cards, which I bought a couple of days ago. They’re mini-business card type things with my photos from Flickr on them. I’ll talk more about them when they arrive though.

Right, I need to put my irritability to good use and direct my grumpy demeanour at someone who works at PC World.

Toodles.

The 3am Idea!

grumpy-handbook-blog.jpgAs I said in last night’s entry, I was going to find and type up the passage I had been looking for in one of my books.

The book in question is the Grumpy Old Men Handbook, written my Stuart Prebble. It’s a book I’ve read more than once and never tire of its truths and observations.

I did attempt to search last night but I was so tired I think I started hallucinating and I could’ve sworn Kate Beckinsale was fanning me with peacock feathers as I lay, flicking through the pages while dressed in a toga. I’m no longer sleepy, I’ve skimmed through the book and I have found the aforementioned passage. So without further ado, I bring you the wise words of Stuart Prebble:

“No, the problem with the World Service arises if you wake up at 3 a.m., which I not infrequently do, and turn on the radio to help you stop thinking about all the things that will inevitably make you depressed at that time of the morning. Depression comes all too easily then. So much so that I’ve now had to make it a personal life rule to remember that anything I think at three in the morning must be bo***cks, merely by virtue of the fact that it’s three in the morning.

This is a digression, but it lays the foundation for the typical day in the life of a grumpy. Continue reading
